In Defense of Fruits and Vegetables! How Whole Un-Processed Foods Really are the Cleansing Super heroes of the Food Universe!

As the summer is now upon us we naturally think to ourselves that we should look our best, because of our upcoming beach vacations, parties, and swim time. Accordingly by now you’ve probably already heard about how cleansing can “flush” the toxins out of your system so your body is beach weather ready. What toxins are we talking about here? Are we eating something that is so toxic that our bodies have to be flushed? I think not ladies and gentlemen! 

Please understand there is no such thing as toxins! There are such things as free radicals, which are natural byproducts of converting your food to energy. Then there are foods you ingest like blueberries, which contain antioxidant vitamins like Vitamins C and E. The antioxidative properties in these vitamins work as your body’s first line of defense to keep free radicals in check and prevent a cascading domino effect of damage to your cells. Now isn’t the time to go crazy with antioxidant supplements however, because there is ongoing research that we actually need some free radicals to kill cancer cells and bacteria. It is ALWAYS ok to add in more antioxidant-rich fruits, vegetables, and grains to your diet, because there are many more ways these foods keep your body looking and feeling good besides their antioxidant properties. In addition, your body is really quite good at naturally removing any harsh elements out of your body through your hardworking liver and kidneys. Like really really good at it, because if they weren’t doing a good job you wouldn’t be sitting here reading this article. 

The biggest takeaway I want you to remember from this article is to understand that eating whole foods is the best way to cleanse your system. Salads at lunch time for instance, help your colon work through whatever unprocessed fatty foods you may have eaten the day before and the bulk from the ingested fiber keeps you feeling fuller for longer periods of time.
